Matt Taylor and the Deep Sky Imager
Matt Taylor writes of his Deep Sky Imager and his 12" Meade LX200GPS:

“I purchased the DSI to use as the dedicated auto-guiding camera for my DSLR. However, one night as I was putting my gear away I decided to give the DSI a try. I slewed my 12” LX200GPS to a star near the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51), drew a box around it, focused, and clicked the auto-exposure button. I set the exposure time to 30 seconds, then sat back in my chair and soon fell asleep. When I awoke an hour and a half later I was surprised to see an incredible image of the Whirlpool Galaxy on my computer screen. It looked absolutely beautiful! While I was sleeping the DSI took a series of 30 second exposures, automatically removed the dark frames, then perfectly stacked the images. I am now having more fun with the night sky than at any other period in my life. Because the DSI is so easy to use my 11 year old daughter has become interested in astronomy, and now spends many evenings with old dad under the stars. I have become cool again!”
