9.7mm Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl 1.25" Eyepiece

The Meade Series 4000 9.7mm Super Plössl eyepiece offers precision engineered Meade optics, with a wide field, sharp image, and a very satisfying view at a terrific cost.

Utilizing multi-coated optics and a 4-element design, the Series 4000 represents an excellent general-purpose eyepiece. Blackened lens edges minimize internal light bounce and glare, producing excellent contrast. The 4-element lens system, with an eye relief of 6mm, is simple yet effective in providing high light transmission and a sharp image, ensuring crisp, bright images across the field of view at a very affordable cost. 9.7mm is considered relatively high magnification, but of course it can vary depending on the focal length of the telescope being used with this eyepiece. As a benchmark, in a 1000mm focal length telescope, the magnification will be 103x, with a field of view of 0.5°. And in a shorter telescope such as an 80mm f/6 refractor (480mm focal length), the magnification is 49x with a wide 1.1° field of view. 9.7mm is an excellent high magnification focal length eyepiece to have in your collection. Ideal for higher resolution lunar and planetary viewing in most all telescopes, as well as compact to medium size deep-sky objects such as planetary nebulae or globular clusters in medium focal length telescopes.

This Series 4000 eyepiece features a precision made standard 1.25" barrel and fold-down rubber eyeguard for comfortable viewing as well as for helping to block stray light. It is parfocal with other Series 4000 Super Plössls meaning there will be little to no focus change when switching between eyepieces. The barrel is threaded for 1.25" eyepiece filters, and the eyepiece weighs just 1.7 oz (49g), with dimensions of 34mm x 40mm.
