WHAT IS A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE?

A total eclipse occurs when the silhouette of the Moon completely covers the bright light of the Sun, allowing the much fainter solar corona to be visible. During any eclipse, totality occurs at best only in a narrow track on the surface of Earth.

2017 GREAT AMERICAN SOLAR ECLIPSE

The continental United States has not had a total solar eclipse occur since 1991, and won’t have another like it until 2045! On Monday, August 21st, 2017, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun presenting the U.S. with a Total Solar Eclipse. First visible over the Oregon coast, the path of totality will cut across 10 states in a southeastern path all the way to South Carolina. TENS OF MILLIONS of people will be able to experience this event simply by stepping outside and looking at the Sun with the correct solar gear! This event, the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse, will be one of the most observed visual events in history!
